Hi All,

I have a quick setup with a few vEOS switches and an ejabberd server. I am able to talk to the switches with a jabber client with this set up.

However, I cannot do anything other than query commands (show, status, etc). I was hoping to be able to change my BGP settings en-masse, but I am not able to do anything that makes configuration changes. I get no feedback from either the enable or config t commands (but I don’t really expect any). And when I try a configuration command, I get an error that leads me to believe it is permissions, or just not possible via xmpp (I munged my ASN for the post):

config t
> router bgp xxxxx
% Invalid input at line 1

My xmpp user is a user on the switch with privilege 15 and is able to run these commands via shell or at the console.

Should I be able to make configuration changes via xmpp or is this not supported?

Thank you.

Hi Jon,

This is supported, just did a quick test and works fine, you just have to make sure that you are sending all those lines in one message (depending on your chat app, you can use alt + space or shift + space or other key combination to add a new line to your message).

See below example:

Thanks Tamas – works good.

Can you give me any hints on using an enable password over xmpp?
