Hello Members,

One of my client is looking to upgrade CVP from 2018.1.4 to 2020.2.0. We have never done CVP upgrade in past and I am having few doubts on the upgrade process

  1. Can we go direct from 2018.1.4 to 2020.2.0, or there is intermediate version we need to upgrade before the desired version ?
  2. I have checked and found system requirement for 2018.1.4 and 2020.2.0 is different, so will we be able to upgrade 1st and then increase vcpu, ram and disk space ?
  3. Someone, suggested to build a new cluster with 2020.2.0 and onboard switches and cvx in to the new one. Is this a feasible option ?
  4. Please help me with step by step procedure of the upgrade.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Kishan

Hi Kishan,

1. You cannot upgrade directly to 2020.2.x, you can also check this in each CVP's release notes under the Upgrade checklist section. The upgrade path for you would be

Upgrade from 2018.1.4 to 2018.2.5

Upgrade from 2018.2.5 to 2020.1.2

Upgrade from 2020.1.2 to 2020.2.4

2. It depends how much resources you have currently now and how many devices are streaming to your cluster, to make sure upgrades will work we recommend increasing the resources before the upgrade.

3. Yes, this would be a better and less time-consuming option. Also if you are going for the 2020.2 train you should pick the last and most stable maintenance version in that train which is 2020.2.4 in there.

4. I'd suggest following up with your local AM/SE team to help you with the step by step process.

For any technical issue during the upgrade feel free to drop us an email at support@arista.com

Thanks,

Tamas

Hello Kishan,

Thank you for reaching out to us. You may consider the following upgrade step as you cannot directly upgrade the CVP server from 2018.1.4 to 2020.2.4

2018.1.4 --> 2018.2.5 --> 2020.1.2 ; 2020.1.2 --> 2020.2.4

You can refer to the CVP upgrade article below and you should consider the system requirement before you upgrade.

I would request you to please consult your SE before you plan an upgrade as they know your deployment better and would suggest you further.

Pushkar
