I’m setting up some ESXI hosts and am looking at the DCS-7050QX-32S as a host to datastore switch.  The switch’s 40Gb ports will be isolated from the LAN – only the ESXI hosts and NASs will be connected to them.  No VLAN, routing, etc.  Pretty much just a dumb 40Gb switch.  The management port would be connected to the LAN for NMS/general management.

Will this work?  What licensing (if any) would be needed?  Any caveats?

Hi Dennis.

This will most definitely work and requires very little configuration to get started. By default if the switch has ZTP disabled (zerotouch disable), all ports will be configured as switchport mode access with a default VLAN of 1, meaning it's just going to bridge all the ports together.

This requires no licenses. Remember to add a password for the admin user and configure the management interface and default route, and you should be good to go.
