Hi,

I have a couple of Arista DCS-7050T-52-R in two datacenters and I am familiar with MLAG, LACP, Port Channel and so on.

Now I have the task to build a HA connection to 2 Cisco Switches in one datacenter and to a Zyxel MGS-3712F in anothet datacenter.

The Ciscos will do HSRP and I am pretty sure that we well be able to get this up and running. I have an Cisco guy to help me with it. He told me that Cisco and Arista have different priorities for STP which may cause problems if you do not take care during configuration. If we use PVST+ / RPVST+ it should be fine.

Can anyone shout out “BAD IDEA” if he sees that I will shoot into my own feet? ;)

Second question: the guy with the Zyxel switch is not a network-guy but we will have to do the setup anyways… Is there anything dangerous in that plan? Anything I have to take care in advance?

Greetz and Thanks,
Andre

Hi Andre,

You might find this whitepaper useful in terms of the covering the STP options and getting both to work well together, and the caveats you need to plan for.

Hope this helps,
Colin
