Our Customer is planning to move service that currently uses PIM-BIDIR to EVPN-VXLAN overlay.

According to feature matrix there are following features supported on 720XP:

  1. PIM Bidirectional
  2. VRF Support for IP Multicast
  3. Multicast EVPN Transit Capability
  4. Multicast EVPN + MLAG

But “IPv4 Multicast Routing with VxLAN” is not supported.

Is there any option to run bidirectional multicast service (when connected device is source/receiver for group at the same time)? Does it support PIM-BIDIR in overlay network or disabling RPF-check?

For overlay multicast, we support OISM or overlay multicast in the underlay by using the BGP multicast address family.  I believe "IPv4 Multicast Routing with VxLAN" refers to the mechanism using the multicast in the underlay.

When use the overlay, there is no RP at all, since EVPN is in control of group membership. OISM will transport on top of a multicast group per-VRF or per-VLAN, which is communicated by EVPN type 10 updates which trigger source-specific joins and also does not require an RP.  While this is not PIM-BIDIR, it certainly supports senders which are also receivers.  The tree just looks a little different in overlay multicast.

In short, yes, you should be able to proceed on this platform with EVPN OISM.
