We have a couple of 7280R’s that we are tying to get the counters working on the VLAN interfaces so we can poll the data via SNMP for billing and reporting purposes.  We have the following config in the running config:

!
hardware counter feature vlan out
hardware counter feature vlan-interface in
hardware counter feature vlan-interface out
hardware counter feature vlan in
!

However the “in” command don’t appear to be functioning.

#show int vlan 83 counters

L3 Interface InOctets InPkts
Vl83 0 0

L3 Interface OutOctets OutPkts
Vl83 1173486164335 2179789578

Any suggestions on what we can look at that would cause the counters to only work on one direction?

Hi Rick,

Do you see the below type of syslog messages in the logs? Sometimes the counter feature may not work as the system might run out of hardware resources due to over provisioning of counter features.

I would suggest you to raise a TAC case to investigate this issue further.

%DATAPLANE-4-COUNTER_RESOURCE_FULL_INGRESS: Hardware resource is insufficient to enable counters for ingress

Hi Rick,

In addition to what Salil mentioned, the ingress vlan counters might need TCAM profile change.

You can check https://eos.arista.com/user-defined-tcam-profiles-toi/#Counters for the details. As per the TOI, we need "counter vlan-interface ingress" configured under the TCAM profile that is being used on the switch.

If the feature is not enabled in the TCAM you may want to reach out to Accounts Team to discuss the User Defined TCAM profile.

Regards,

Adwait
