Accelerated Software Upgrade support on some 7280R platforms

Description ASU (or Accelerated Software Upgrade) is a feature that will minimize traffic loss when upgrading from one ASU-supported EOS version to a newer ASU-supported EOS version. During the upgrade process, the ASIC is kept active and will continue to forward traffic based on the data plane state. A brief loss of traffic is expected when the configuration from the new EOS image is applied to the ASIC. Note that the first supported version for this feature refers to the first version where the command is available. ASU cannot be performed from an older version to the first supported version....

SSU support for L2 EVPN with VXLAN

Description Smart System Upgrade (SSU) aims to minimize traffic loss during a software upgrade. The Smart System Upgrade (SSU) process includes the core functionality of Accelerated Software Upgrade, plus additional optimizations that permit a hitless restart of several features. SSU leverages protocols capable of graceful restart to minimize traffic loss during upgrade. For protocols not capable of graceful restart, SSU generates control plane messages and buffers them in hardware to be slowly released when the control plane is offline. Additionally, under SSU, the forwarding ASIC does not get reset and ports do not flap. Starting EOS 4.22.1F SSU is now...

Upgrade Questions for EOS

We are about to upgrade our Arista switches to address the newest vulnerabilities that came out recently, and I have a few questions I’m hoping you can help with. Some of our switches are on older hardware. Is there a table somewhere that lists the highest code level a particular platform can run? Will all newer code releases run on all older hardware? Some of our switches are running very old code. Does SSU work on very old code (say, 4.5)? Assuming not, what is the upgrade path to get these switches up to 4.14…? Do I have to upgrade...

EOS Smart System upgrade

I came across this youtube video about Arista EOS Smart system upgrade feature that will allow me to upgrde to next software version hitless i.e. no impact on my forwarding plane. I’ve some questions around it : 1. How  SSU is different than ISSU ? 2. Is the feature support specific to hardware ? if so, Is there any link that can give me the detail about Hardware that is supporting SSU ? or if some one can list down the hardware , I couldn’t find any comprehensive list during my search. Thanks, Chintan
