I am trying to configure the Ethernet interfaces in an Arista Switch that is running on a vm (using vmware workstation). I am able to configure the management interface according to the user guid given but during configuring ethernet interfaces using the same procedure i am getting the following error:

localhost(config-if-aces etm)# ip address 172.16.204.4/24
! IP configuration will be ignored while interface Ethernet1 is not a routed port.

If someone could provide some help in this regard. Thanks in advance.

By default the front panel ports are configured as 'switchport' (layer 2). If you want to assign an IP address to the port, you need to configure it as 'routed' ('no switchport'). Example:

```SW1(config-if-Et3)#show active
interface Ethernet3
SW1(config-if-Et3)#ip add 192.168.0.1/24
! IP configuration will be ignored while interface Ethernet3 is not a routed port.
SW1(config-if-Et3)#no switchport
SW1(config-if-Et3)#ip add 192.168.0.1/24
SW1(config-if-Et3)#show active
interface Ethernet3
no switchport
ip address 192.168.0.1/24```
